It has been confirmed that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will probably be featured in a future-set scene, given that the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This marks the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
