Donald Trump along with Japan's Recently Appointed Prime Minister Share Compliments and Vow to Reinforce ‘Remarkable’ Bond

During a latest trip to Tokyo, ex- American leader Donald Trump and Japan's recently elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi shared warm praise and vowed to enhance the already strong two-way relations.

Key Points from the Meeting

Donald Trump praised Takaichi as a ‘great’ leader and congratulated her on assuming the role of the nation's first female prime minister. In their talks at Tokyo's official venue, the former president voiced confidence that Takaichi would prove to be one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of Japan.

Takaichi, identified as a close associate of late Prime Minister Abe, praised his efforts to resolve global conflicts and reportedly vowed to put forward him for the prestigious award.

Economic and Security Deals

The two nations revealed a series of collaborative projects in areas such as power, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Japan-based firms are considering investments of up to $400bn in the United States.

Furthermore, Japan had previously pledged $550bn in long-term US investments, financing, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure exemption from the former president's import duties.

These moves are seen as potentially reducing any future requests from the US side for Tokyo to increase its military spending. Takaichi responded to this by promising to accelerate proposals to raise defense spending to 2% of GDP.
