David Beckham was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on the weekday. The former England captain, fifty, was one of the individuals receiving awards for his services to athletics and charity. Earlier this year, he expressed he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.
The player made his Premier League debut for Manchester United in the mid-nineties and was part of the team that secured a dramatic European Cup win in 1999 when they defeated Bayern Munich with two late goals.
Overall, he netted 85 goals and collected honours including six Premier League titles and two FA Cups as a footballer, before ending his playing career in 2013. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has supported a variety of philanthropic initiatives, including acting as a goodwill ambassador for humanitarian aid organisation Unicef since 2005.

Last year, the sports star, who has referred to himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, an non-profit organization founded by the monarch in the early nineties. In the late nineties he was named top fashion icon by a leading publication and he has posed for brands like the fashion retailer, the Italian designer, and Boss.
Beckham married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have four children together – their eldest, the second son, Cruz, and their daughter.
